Do you ever bypass the jewelry container on the Goodwill (G.W.) counter? Is it all just junk to you? I used to think so, but recently while on my $5 in 5 (minutes) journey to G.W. (details here) I have made the effort to give it a glance.

RESULT? A vintage-y interchangeable necklace using a chain and clip-on earrings.

Just clamp that bad boy on the back of any chain and PRESTO!

Grab a few and change them out! They are only a few cents...LITERALLY!

I think it's pretty neat-o!

WHIMSICAL VINTAGE-INSPIRED SPRNG WREATH: MADE OUT OF A "SPRING"

I know, I know...it's a little "cheesy", but I just couldn't help myself! When I deconstructed the crib mattress to make a bench, I had springs coming out of my ears and the hubs didn't appreciate all of the mattress's spare parts hanging around 

(we really lack storage for non-purposeful items). 

I bid farewell to everything except for this one lonely spring! I just couldn't part with it because I knew there would be something I could do with that baby!

So here we have it...

A SPRING WREATH made out of a SPRING!

I still giggle when I see it. It's funny to me, I don't really know why. I mean I love it and think its charming, but the idea makes me chuckle.

I amuse myself sometimes.

I am weird!

I kept mine small, but it could be any size.

So here's what I did.

I folded the spring in half then wrapped it around and wrapped the ends together.

I used a paper clip to tie the ends together. Then spray painted it white

Then I scrounged my craft supply for decor. This is what I found.

I made a little banner with a scrap piece of burlap and burnt the ends to give it an aged look 

(also stops the fraying)

Then I glued the banner to the top (the place where I tied the ends together)

Then I just glued the little rosettes, netting and ribbon right on.

I used this turquoise puff paint to write "spring" and voila!

Simple and FREE!

A re-purposed spring made a charming little spring accent.

GOOOOOOD MORNING!!

I pray everyone had a beautiful weekend!

In my continued quest to de-brownify (gotta love my good grammar), I decided to begin with adding some color to the front door!

Isn't she purty!!!??? Took only about 15 minutes!

But there was one little problem!

Craft budget = tiny!

So I decided to go shopping in the best place possible! My Closet! That is a place where it is ALWAYS FREE!

I found this great fabric that I bought a few springs ago to make a pillowcase dress for my daughter (she hates pillowcase dresses, by the way)

Isn't it GREAT! AND FREEEEE!

So then I went shopping in my OTHER closet for a wreath and found this one from the fall. 

OK so lets get to repurposing!

1-Cut two pieces of fabric 8" by 54"

2-Then wrap wrap and wrap some more, tucking as you go

(I wrapped right over the other fabric just incase I wanna use that baby again!)

3-I didnt want to glue anything so whatever shall I do!?! STRAIGHT PINS!!

I pinned everything on with straight pins!

Silk flowers included!

 

And there ya have it! Re-used the rafia to tie up a chalkboard frame, Re-used the burlap bow and this baby only cost $2 for the yellow and white flowers from Dollar Tree!

Everything else was REPURPOSED!

I honestly can't wait to pull out more hidden treasures from my "closet store"!!

COFFEE TABLE UPCYCLE:TO DISTRESS OR NOT DISTRESS?!

IT'S FRIDAY!!! Wooohooo!

I have spent this gorgeous day with my little girl running to and fro, of course making a scheduled out-of-the blue stop at the Dollar Store and Home Depot!

After a Pinterest inspired craft FAIL (more on that tomorrow), I needed some DIY therapy...you know...

A little pick-me-upper!!!

I am thrilled with the outcome of my $3 garage sale coffee table up cycle.

My porch is a work in process. Still needs a rug, wall art, lighting and MORE...but when designing on a dime (literally), its all about patience and enjoying the process!

So back to the coffee table!

I think it is the perfect mix of rustic and modern! It started out a plain old 1970's TV stand and now its a great addition to my back porch.  It was on the porch for literally MONTHS and I just wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it, until we sanded the top.  I loved it raw and undone, but the rest of it wasn't looking the same way and my affections were not the same. So I decided to take the plunge and get to painting...spray painting, that is.

First, I taped up the top (I used WalMart bags and tape) and primed two coats with Kiltz Spray Primer. This took about a full can and a quarter of a second can. 

Next, I sanded with 220 grit sandpaper to have a smooth surface....now what color shall we use?!? Well, after seeing this all over "blog land", I decided to try out Rustoleum "Heirloom White".  I wish it would have come in gloss so it would be more durable, but I love this color!! Really!! 

I can see why it's so popular!

I bought basket drawers to put all of the kids outdoor toys and play stuff (that worked out perfectly) 

and all is well...

...accept..

I am stumped as to whether or not I should distress the white or not!!!

HAPPY SPRING: AN UN-MANTLE REVEALED

It's HUMP day! I love Wednesdays for that very reason! Almost the weekend

(well, halfway there at least).

I have toiled with the fact that all over Pinterest and the blog world I am seeing these awesome spring mantels everywhere! Emily over at 52 Mantels is the QUEEN of mantels (In my opinion)! I am so Jealous!!  Why, you might ask? Well, because my mantel is taken up by a ginormous black rectangle that looks something like this...

...I wish I could reclaim that mantle for my own, but something tells me that would cause a bit of a problem with the hubbs.  OK, I'll be HONEST...It IS the really only reasonable spot for the TV in the awkward elongated living/dining area of my home, but a girl can rant, right?! (After all, this is MY blog...:))

So...I decided that I would not let this mantle monstrosity take me down this spring...no-sir-e!!  So here is my UN-Mantle...

It's only the top of my piano, nestled away in the corner, but I am thinking that will need to change and SOON!

This is just too cute to hide, if I would say so myself (and I just did)!

Love my .25 Garage sale glass "cover thingy"...on top of my cute little white bird from a thrift store for 1.00...on top of a white dessert plate (freeee)....on top of a 1.00 white candlestick upcycled from guess where???  YES, a Thrift Store!! How'd you know??

And what about those Grass Balls...on clearance last fall at HOBBY LOBBY (my second home)!

And I threw the twine left over from the bridal bouquet I made this weekend in the apothecary jar...worked nicely!  Waste not, want not!!

I am just loving it!
