TRASH TO TREASURE {T2T} TUESDAY: SOOTHING MUSIC MANTEL & SOMEBODY HAS A BIRTHDAY

OK...I DID IT AGAIN!

I rearranged the piano/un-mantle for the MILLIONTH TIME in the past month! 

I just CANNOT HELP MYSELF!

I AM JUST INSPIRED BY ALL OF YOU FELLOW BLOGGERS...

and of course, PINTEREST!

I love my SOOTHING MUSIC UN-MANTEL!

On T2T, honestly, almost EVERYTHING in this set up was at one time---TRASH!

The run down:

• Canvas painting-Was an old "blah" painting that I picked up from who knows where.  I just used paint on hand and a little water and blended together blues and oranges.
• White platter-Picked up from a garage sale for $1
• Silver Glass Vase-Was orange but quickly became apart of my experiment with Krylon mirror-like spray paint...I love the result!
• White Deco Balls-You can see the before here! Rustoleum heirloom white spray paint changed those up for the better, I'd say.
• Old wine bottle-Is just that...an old wine bottle...no big explanation for this one.

Whatever is left (which isn't much) has been lingering around the house for a while. 

(Please forgive the bad lighting...As you have read here in my recent blog post, my SLR camera in "under construction", and I lost someone stole my wonderful, 2 month old iphone 4S, therefore, I'm back to using the old phone! )

I have future plans for these "Soothe" letters...Stay tuned!

ON ANOTHER NOTE...

IT'S SOMEBODY'S BIRTHDAY TODAY!

This picture is literally 5 seconds after waking her up...her eyes are still closed! haha!

She is enjoying her birthday present..."Buster", her new baby! She has been BEGGING us to have another baby...maybe "Buster" will get that off her mind for a while

(YES, there is an ulterior motive---Don't Judge me!)

They were treated to "Mickey D's" for a birthday breakfast before school!

Pancakes and chocolate milk...their teachers will LOVE me today!

[Enter sarcasm here]

Amazing how they were ready early enough for this but on any OTHER NORMAL day, they are still dressing and eating in the car on the way to school!

HMMMM? Interesting??

T2T {TRASH 2 TREASURE} TUESDAY: A LAMP MAKEOVER...GONE BAD!

I bought this Lamp and lampshade from Goodwill for a few buckaroos.

The plan was to:

1. Paint the base, and

2. Recover the shade!

Doesn't seem like a difficult task at hand...or so I thought!

PROBLEM #1:

The hunt for Krylon Mirror-like paint was a looooong drawn out process! I went EVERYWHERE! I wasn't settling for anything else because I wanted to try this technique that I saw on Pinterest that would give it a mercury glass effect! So, I FINALLY found ONE can...8 BUCKS! Goodness!!! Not what I wanted to spend...nevertheless...it was bought...

Oh yeah, and the mercury glass effect...

FAIL!

Looked more like rain spots! UGH! Oh well...moving on!

PROBLEM #2:

This PROBLEM lamp is living on my bathroom counter for now because of the "dungeon-like" lack of light!  Well, the lampshade, as is, kinda diffuses the light and really doesn't let much light through. Because of this "problem", I figured that I couldn't recover the shade because then it would be even darker.

So....I had a thought...that led to action...that led to

FAILURE!

My thought:

Use a sheer fabric around the shade's wire form! I found the PERFECT fabric...my sheer summer scarf!

Yes!  That would be a perfect solution! Sheer fabric would let lots of light through!

So I started to cut...

...and cut....

and cut!

This is what I had left!

YIKES! I didn't think that it was two separate pieces.  After trying to figure out a way to make this work without actually buying more supplies which would make the cost of this lampshade more than simply buying a new on...

I surrendered!

I bought a new shade for $4 at Wal-Mart!

The lamp is much better now, despite the journey to get it there...

I still want to do something cool with this little lampshade!

I'd love some feedback!

What should I do with it to make it less "plain"...

JEWELRY RE-PURPOSE:VINTAGE-Y NECKLACE

Do you ever bypass the jewelry container on the Goodwill (G.W.) counter? Is it all just junk to you? I used to think so, but recently while on my $5 in 5 (minutes) journey to G.W. (details here) I have made the effort to give it a glance.

RESULT? A vintage-y interchangeable necklace using a chain and clip-on earrings.

Just clamp that bad boy on the back of any chain and PRESTO!

Grab a few and change them out! They are only a few cents...LITERALLY!

I think it's pretty neat-o!

After a weekend jam-packed with organizing, purging, more organizing and more purging I am so ready for a "VACAY"!

I will be starting the blog series, "Mission Organization", very soon! I have realized that I cannot decorate and design around clutter and an unorganized home so it is time to do what I despise the most and

ORGANIZE!

MAY THE LORD BE WITH ME!

So after this weekend of organizing I have determined that

I AM SO READY TO BE AT THE BEACH!

Is that bad? I mean it is just April!! All I know is the breezy salty air and cool waters are calling my name! Maybe it is really just the calming tranquil sound of crashing waves while the lullaby of the seagulls along with the soothing touch of the warm sun rock me to sleep !

MAYBE THAT'S WHAT I AM CRAVING?!?!

Nevertheless, I am bringing the beach indoors, with subtle elegance, I would say, with this 

Thrifty Sunburst Mantle  

Incorporating my daughters collection of seashells in a thrift store glass dish is a nice touch...

You  know there is never a transformation without a LITTLE bit of spray paint! So I took these old brown deco balls...and painted them white:)

They look sooooo much better!

Also, incorporating my DIY SUNBURST MIRROR-WITH BLING! is the perfect addition of Sunshine and sparkle!

ARE YOU PLANNING A BEACH TRIP?

GLAZING FURNITURE AND CINDER BLOCK DECORATING

I have these two tables that I bought for next to nothing at TJ Max a long LONG time ago!  They were great for me as-is back in the day, but now, I'm not really featuring a whole lot of black or red in my home.

If you have been reading, you will know that I have been working so hard to lighten and brighten my home and rid this space of soooo muuuuch brown.  I DO love brown, but my house has way too much of it!  It is coming along, but the biggest obstacle is my brown couch.  I love gray and white and have been struggling to add these colors to my living room because of this ginormous brown couch.

Alright...so back to the table.  I figured I would prime it then paint it gray. Once I did this, it was too gray  and looked SO BAD next to my couch so I used my favorite product, "BLACK COFFEE" MARTHA STEWART METALLIC GLAZE! (Love this stuff)

I glazed over the table with a cheapo depo 2 inch craft brush.  I glazed it going in one direction trying to create an almost "70's" laquer wood grain look.  You know the kind that looks striped but its not, its actually wood.

BUT It still needed MORE! 

DON'T YOU JUST HATE WHEN YOUR "ETA" (Estimated Time of Arrival) OF A PROJECT JUST KEEPS GETTING POSTPONED BECAUSE YOU JUST ARE NOT SATISFIED! 

That really gets me perturbed!

Tick Tock Tick Tock!

So in efforts to stop staring at this striped concoction of sorts, I mixed Burnt Umber Acrylic Paint with some of the glaze and painted only the legs of the table...and there ya have it.

It's some crazy creation that I don't really have a word for.

But it still doesn't look right!

So, I'm on the hunt for a spot in the house to land this annoyingly fabulous table before I am found with spray paint in hand!

Ding! Ding! Ding!...

(What's with me and all the noises today?)  

My Son's room would be great! His room has like a "Mod-70's-Street -Like Vibe"

 (I don't really know...just a bunch of boyish looking design stuff)

I grabbed some cinder blocks from outside to give it more of a rugged look... 

 ...and it houses a few trophies and headphones and stuff!

(Sorry for the blurry pic! Still waiting on my "good" camera to be fixed!)

He likes it!!

 I'm off to a field trip with  my lil girl!
